Hi, I’m Yotam Knispel. 

I am a screenwriter, director, editor and lecturer

at the Faculty of Arts at Beit Berl College, where I graduated with honors. Currently, I am writing two feature-length screenplays with the support of the Israeli Film Fund.

I was nominated twice for an Israeli Academy Award for my short films Love Has Nothing To Do With It (2022) and Girl With a Fork in a World of Soup (2019), which were screened at various film festivals over the world.

 I have been writing since I knew how to read, and have involved myself in film from a young age: I’ve worked as a films-summary writer and a clerk in Israel's biggest DVD library, a projectionist, columnist, journalist, interviewer...

 I am drawn to telling surrealistic stories that take place in realistic worlds and exploring gender boundaries. I always attempt to break barriers and thought patterns on issues like loneliness, belonging, inner worlds, desire and freedom.

My graduation film Girl With a Fork in a World of Soup, a romantic musical comedy, won Best Narrative Short at the 35th Jerusalem Film Festival. Other winnings include Best Screenplay & Best Short Film in CineForte and Best Editing Award at the 21st Tel Aviv Student Film Festival. 

The short was also nominated for Best Narrative Short at the Ophir Awards (Israeli Academy Awards).

Drop (2015) - Screened in over 45 film festivals worldwide and won 8 prizes.

Bambina (2016) - My first international effort.
An Italian co-production shot in Sicily and screened in over 15 film festivals.

Fuck Buddies (2015) - Screened in 10 film festivals around the world.

I have worked as an editor on 2 feature films:

Smile directed by Genady Kuchuk and Adesey directed by Samuel Beru. I have also worked as an assistant editor on Let It Be Morning directed by Eran Kolirin. 

My love of music is inseparable from my love of cinema and accompanies me in every endeavor.

I have directed music videos for prominent Israeli musicians like Acollective, The White Screen, Omer Moskovich and Tomer Yeshayahu among others.
